Daily Bytes

Privacy

Plain words about what this app does with your data. Updated 12 October 2026.

What Daily Bytes is

Daily Bytes delivers one short lesson a day. There are no accounts, no ads and no sign-in. The app and the web version identify you only by a random device ID created on first use.

What we store

Your random device ID, and the day you first opened Daily Bytes.

Your learning progress: which bytes you finished, quiz scores, streak, XP, badges, plants in your garden and bytes you saved.

Your time zone (for example "Europe/London"), so your day, your streak and your daily bytes follow your own clock. We do not collect your location.

Which version you use: the iPhone and iPad app, the Android app or the web version. It helps us find your reader if you ask for help.

Anonymous usage events, such as that a byte was opened or finished and which tab was used. They carry the device ID and content IDs, never text you typed.

When you arrive by a link that names where it came from (for example a lesson on tecyfy.com), that name, the link’s label and the page it opened. Page views on tecyfy.com are counted here too: the page, the site the visitor came from, and nothing that identifies them.

Error reports when something breaks in the app: the error message, the screen it happened on and your device and app version. They carry the device ID and nothing you typed.

Feedback you choose to send, with the device ID and your device or browser type.

On the web version only: a question you send us from Learn as an idea for a future byte, and a time capsule you write in the Garden. Both are kept with the device ID until you delete your data.

On the web version only, if you turn on the daily reminder: your reminder time and the address your browser gives us to send the notification to.

If you redeem a Plus code: the code, your plan and the date it ends.

If you buy Plus: Google Play tells us which plan you bought, its status and the dates it runs. We keep a one-way fingerprint of the purchase so we can recognise it again, never the purchase token itself. Your payment details stay with Google; we never see them.

If you claim a certificate for a finished track: the name you type for it. The certificate has a public page showing that name, the track, the day you finished and your quiz score to anyone who has its link. It is kept out of search engines.

On your phone or tablet only: your reminder time, theme and text size, and a saved copy of recent content so the app works offline. In the app, reminders are scheduled on your device and are never sent to us.

On Android, the device ID is also kept in Google Block Store, so that with your phone's Google backup on, reinstalling the app or setting up a new phone from your Google account brings your progress back. Other apps cannot read it.

On iPhone and iPad, the device ID is also kept in your Apple Keychain, so reinstalling the app, or opening it on another of your Apple devices that shares your iCloud Keychain, brings your progress back. Apple cannot read it and neither can other apps.

AI features

The iPhone and iPad app has no AI features. Elsewhere they are optional: if you use Ask Bytes or the Explain It Back feedback, the text you type and the text of the byte you are reading are sent to a third-party AI service that writes the response. We do not keep what you typed. Nothing else about you is sent, and the service does not receive your device ID. You can turn AI features off at any time in You, then Settings, then AI features, and they disappear from the app.

What we do not collect

Your name (unless you type one for a certificate), email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, microphone or advertising ID. We do not sell data and we do not show ads.

How we use it

To run the app: keep your progress, streak and saved bytes, and give you the plan you have.

To improve it: see which bytes and features are used, and find and fix problems.

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build profiles of you, and we do not sell it.

Who we share it with

We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, and only what each one needs: a hosting provider that runs our servers and stores the data above, and a third-party AI service for the AI features described above.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the app and its readers from fraud or abuse.

Where it lives, how long and how it is protected

Your data is stored on servers run for Daily Bytes by our hosting provider. Progress is kept until you delete it. Usage events and error reports are kept only to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.

All data between the app and our servers is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Our servers see your IP address when the app connects, as every website does; we use it only to deliver the service and to limit abuse, and we do not store it with your progress.

Your choices

Delete my data: in the app, open You and choose Delete my data. This erases everything stored for your device ID, including progress, saved bytes, feedback and certificates (their links stop working), and cannot be undone. A Plus subscription is managed in Google Play: deleting your data does not cancel it.

Notifications: you can turn the daily reminder off in You, then Reminders, or in your phone settings.

Uninstalling the app removes the data stored on your phone or tablet, including downloaded topics. The device ID stays in your Apple Keychain or Google Block Store so a reinstall can find your progress; Delete my data removes it from there too.

Children

Daily Bytes is meant for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has used the app, delete the data in the app or write to us and we will erase it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
