Data loss prevention
Also called DLP, data leak prevention
Software that spots sensitive data being copied, uploaded or sent somewhere it shouldn't go, and warns the person or stops it.
Data loss prevention, DLP for short, is software that recognises sensitive data and watches where it goes. It covers data being used on a device, data moving across a network and data sitting in storage.
For AI tools the useful part is on the device. When someone pastes text or uploads a file to a website, the software can compare it with patterns the organisation cares about, such as keys, customer records or source code. Then it logs the event, warns the person or stops the upload.
Its reach ends where the organisation's devices end. That is why it works as one layer of 3, beside an approved tool on business terms and a short list of what never goes into any AI tool.
For example
A developer on a company laptop pastes a file holding an access key into a chatbot's web page. A warning appears before the text is sent.
