AI notetaker
Also called meeting assistant, AI meeting notes, notetaker bot
An AI tool that records or transcribes a meeting and writes the summary and action points, often by joining the call as an extra participant.
AI notetakers take over a dull job: nobody has to write the minutes, and people who missed the meeting can catch up in a minute. They listen, transcribe, then have a model pull out the decisions and the to-do list.
2 things go wrong. The summary can be confidently wrong, especially about who said or agreed to what. And the recording reaches people who never agreed to it. In a US class action, someone who'd never used Otter.ai says its notetaker recorded a sales call because another participant had it switched on, and that recordings were used to train the service. The case hasn't been decided.
The polite habit is also the safe one: announce the notetaker, offer to switch it off, and share the summary so others can correct it.
For example
After a 45-minute call, everyone gets an email with the decisions, who agreed to do what, and the deadlines.
