Training opt-out

Also called Improve the model for everyone, model training setting

The setting that stops an AI company using your conversations to train its future models.

AI companies improve their models partly by learning from real conversations. Unless you're on a work plan, your chats may be part of that, and on some apps that's the default.

Training isn't the same as someone reading your messages. It means your conversation becomes one of millions of examples the next model learns patterns from. The risk is small for most chats and larger for unusual ones: a rare personal detail can, occasionally, be learned and repeated. Some apps also have people review a sample of chats to grade the AI.

The switch takes a minute to find. Check it in each app you use, again after big policy updates, and use temporary chats for anything you'd rather not leave behind at all.

For example

Before pasting in your own medical letters, you check the training setting is off.
